Helsinski – Bio
Helsinski is the moniker of Finnish musician Juho Vehmanen, a performer and producer who has been a fixture on the scene for over two decades. After rising to prominence with PMMP, he built a career that bridges solo work, studio production and a long tenure as bassist for some of Finland’s most popular and acclaimed bands, including Jenni Vartiainen, My First Band, Jere & The Universe, Vesala and VV (Ville Valo).
Helsinski’s music is an alternative form of pop where urban rhythm, experimental electronics and poetic storytelling collide. His songs move between intimacy and widescreen atmosphere, blending warm basslines and tactile textures with lo-fi grit and polished clarity. Fuzz, bitcrushing and analogue imperfections sit comfortably alongside crisp synth layers and deep grooves. Lyrically, he crafts vivid, dreamlike imagery that feels at once personal and universal, drawing listeners into a world that is both danceable and reflective.
As a solo artist, Helsinski has released three albums: Glow Sticks (2019), a moody debut that showcased his melodic instincts; Arktipolis (2020), an instrumental collaboration with BDF that explored cinematic and experimental textures; and Waves of Pain (2021), a dark, nocturnal work blending alt-pop, glitchy electronica and hip-hop elements.
In 2023 Vehmanen toured worldwide as bassist for Ville Valo’s VV, and in 2024 took part in PMMP’s long-awaited comeback: two sold-out nights at Helsinki Olympic Stadium and a nationwide arena and club tour that became a cultural milestone in Finland.
Currently, Helsinski is working on his third solo album, due in 2026, promising his most ambitious work yet.
